Kitchen Gadgets
Friday, August 25th, 2006I absolutely love having a rice cooker. Jim likes to use the microwave, but that actually requires attention. My rice cooker only requires rice, water, and someone to depress the switch.
When we first got to AZ and didn’t have water to the coach, I kept the cooker on all the time, and we used the water for bathing, washing hair, washing dishes, every thing.
Now, back in a more normal, approaching “regular kitchen” environment, Just planning an hour ahead to have rice, gets me bigger, softer, fluffier rice than the microwave does.
My other treasured appliance is the West Bend, “Versatility Slow Cooker.” This replaced an ancient one that died a few months ago. It has a stainless steel pot that sits on a burner/griddle.
You can’t replace this with a stoneware crock pot, because this is the pot you use if you want to brown onions before setting it on the burner. You can use your high intensity burners on the cooktop and then move it to the slow cooking mode.
Found my replacement on sale at Wal Mart.
